Getting Started With Your Valheim Server

Valheim · 2 min read · ThundraNode Support

Your Valheim server is already running. This page is the map for what to do next, in the order that actually makes sense for a brand new server.

1. Get everyone connected

Set a Server Name in Startup and have your group search for it in Valheim's server list, that's the default join method on every platform. See How to Connect to Your Valheim Server, which also covers direct-connecting by IP as a PC-only backup.

Got Xbox or Game Pass players in the group? Same server-name search works for them too, once you turn crossplay on. See How to Enable Crossplay.

2. Make yourself admin

Being the server owner doesn't automatically give you admin powers in-game. You'll want this early, both for the useful commands and for moderating later. See How to Become Admin.

3. Set your world up the way you want it

Server name, password, and the world's difficulty and resource settings all live in one place. See World Modifiers and Settings.

Bringing over a world you already started, or a specific seed? Do this before anyone plays, not after. See How to Upload Your Own World.

4. Mods, if you want them

Vanilla Valheim is solid on its own, but if you want to change stamina, damage, drop rates, or add new content, mods handle it. See How to Install Mods and Top Mods for Your Server.

5. Keep it running smoothly

Your server updates itself automatically. Backups happen automatically too, and you can restore one in a couple of clicks if something goes wrong. See Backing Up and Restoring Your World.

Still stuck?
