How to Upload Your Own Valheim World

Valheim · 1 min read · ThundraNode Support

Want to keep playing a world you already started? You can upload it directly instead of starting fresh. This works for a save from a previous host, a local single-player world, or a backup someone sent you.

What you need

Two files with matching names:

  • <worldname>.db
  • <worldname>.fwl

Both come from wherever your world currently lives. On a PC single-player or LAN save, these are normally found under %appdata%\..\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local\ on your own computer.

Set your World Name to match

  1. Open Startup.
  2. Set World Name to exactly match the name of the files you're about to upload (case-sensitive).
  3. Save.

Upload the world files

  1. Open Files.
  2. Navigate to .config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local/.
  3. Upload both the .db and .fwl files.
  4. Restart the server.

Confirm it worked

After the restart, check Console for the world name being loaded. If your uploaded world's landmarks and builds are there when you join, it worked.

Still stuck?

If the server generated a brand new world instead of loading yours, check for a name mismatch first. The World Name in Startup and your uploaded file names need to match exactly, including capitalization. Still not loading after that? Open a support ticket with your server ID from the Dashboard.

Did this solve it?
