Valheim's whitelist works through a plain text file listing the Steam IDs allowed to join. If the list is empty, there's no restriction. The moment you add a Steam ID to it, only accounts on that list can connect.
Add players to the whitelist
- Open Files.
- Navigate to
.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/permittedlist.txt. - Right click and choose Edit.
- Paste each allowed player's SteamID64, one per line.
- Save and close.
- Restart the server.
Anyone not on this list will be rejected when they try to join, even with the correct server password.
Remove someone from the whitelist
Open the same file, delete their Steam ID, save, and restart. They'll no longer be able to connect.
Still stuck?
If players you added still can't get in, check for typos in the Steam ID, it needs to be the 17-digit SteamID64, not a display name. If the list looks correct and it's still blocking valid players, open a support ticket with your server ID from the Dashboard.
