World Modifiers and Server Settings for Valheim

Your server's name, password, and world modifiers are all set in one place, no file editing required for these.

Where to find them

1. Open Startup.
2. You'll see fields for Server Name, Server Password, and the world modifier options (combat difficulty, resource rates, raids, portals, death penalty, and similar toggles).

Setting server name and password

Server name is what shows up in the server browser, make it something your group will recognize. Password is optional, leave it blank for an open server or set one to keep it private.

Setting world modifiers

Pick the presets or individual toggles that match how you want to play, for example easier combat for a casual group, or harder resource rates for more of a grind. These only take effect the next time a new world is generated on this server, so decide on them before your first proper session.

Save and apply

1. Save your changes in Startup.
2. Restart the server.

Still stuck?

If a setting doesn't seem to have applied, confirm you restarted after saving, Startup changes need a restart to take effect. If it's still not right after that, open a support ticket with your server ID from the Dashboard.
