How to Upgrade or Downgrade Your Server Plan

Upgrading or downgrading your ThundraNode plan changes your server's RAM, CPU, or player slot allocation. It does not touch your world, plugins, or files. Go to Account in the left sidebar, select the resource change you want, and confirm. The server restarts automatically to apply it. The only real risk is picking the wrong amount by mistake, or downgrading below what your modpack needs.

Symptoms

• You want more RAM or slots because the server lags or a modpack won't run
• You want to downgrade to save money now that the server is quieter
• You're not sure if changing plans will wipe your world
• You changed RAM and now the server won't start or keeps crashing

Why this happens

A plan change is purely a resource resize, how much memory and CPU your server container is allowed to use. It's completely separate from your world data, which lives untouched on disk. Support has confirmed directly: upgrading (or downgrading) a plan does not reset your world; the only required action is the resource change itself, and the server restarts automatically to pick up the new limits.

The two problems that actually bite people are: clicking the wrong control and shrinking RAM instead of growing it, and downgrading RAM below what your installed modpack or plugin list actually needs, which causes out-of-memory crashes at startup, not a billing issue.

Before confirming any change, re-read the amount you're setting. A customer once meant to add 1 GB and instead removed RAM, dropping the server from 6 GB to 1 GB. It took an extra support ticket and a second upgrade (to 8 GB) to fully fix it.

How to fix it

1. Open Account from the left sidebar and find your server's current plan/resource allocation.
2. Decide the exact target amount (RAM, CPU, or slots): don't just click "more" or "less" without checking the resulting number.
3. Confirm the change. The server restarts on its own to apply the new limits; you don't need to manually restart or touch Console.
4. If you're upgrading because a modpack won't run, check our RAM sizing guide for modded servers first so you pick a plan that's actually big enough, not just "a bit more."
5. If you're downgrading, make sure the new amount still covers your modpack or plugin load: a heavily modded server can easily need several GB just to boot. One customer's server was using 1.10 GB on a 1 GB plan and needed to move up to 2 GB just to start reliably.
6. After the resize, check Console for any memory-related errors on the next boot, and confirm your world loads normally from Files or the Dashboard.
7. If you accidentally selected the wrong direction (downgrade instead of upgrade, or vice versa), open a support ticket: staff can revert the change, or you can simply re-apply the correct amount yourself.
