Bedrock Players Get an "Outdated Version" Error

If Bedrock players suddenly see an "outdated version" or "cannot connect" error, and Java players are unaffected, your Geyser has fallen behind the latest Bedrock release.

Nothing on your server broke. Minecraft updated on your friend's device, and the crossplay software has not caught up yet.

How to tell this is what happened

• Bedrock players could join yesterday and cannot today
• Java players are completely unaffected
• Nobody changed any server settings
• Console shows a Geyser version warning when the server starts

The fix

Update Geyser. The steps are short and depend on your server type, so they live in their own guide: how to update crossplay.

In short: on Paper, click Install again in Enable Cross Play. On Fabric, update Geyser from Installed Mods. Restart afterwards either way.

If updating does not help

Geyser is maintained by a separate team, and a brand new Bedrock version can take a few days to support. If you have updated and there is genuinely nothing newer available, you have two choices.

Wait. This is usually the right call. Crossplay comes back on its own once Geyser catches up, and Java players are unaffected in the meantime.

Roll back. If you need Bedrock players in sooner, restore the server to the version that was working using backups. Bear in mind their Bedrock client has already auto-updated, so this does not always help.

Before assuming it is a version problem, check the address your friend is typing. A wrongly entered address looks very similar from the outside, and it is a far more common cause. See crossplay not working.
