Bedrock updates itself on phones and consoles whenever Mojang ships a new version. Geyser, the thing that lets those players reach your Java server, has to be updated to match. When it falls behind, your Bedrock friends stop being able to join while Java players carry on as normal.
Updating takes one click. Which button you click depends on whether your server runs Paper or Fabric.
Do I need to update?
You probably do if all of these are true:
- Bedrock players could join before, and now cannot
- Java players are still fine
- Minecraft updated recently on your friend's phone, console or Windows PC
If Java players are also having trouble, this is not your problem. See why your server will not start instead.
Check your server type first
Open your server and look at Server Type in the left sidebar. Follow the section below that matches.
If you are on Paper or Spigot
- Open Enable Cross Play from the left sidebar.
- Click GeyserMC in the Plugin Setups list.
- Leave Bedrock Port as it is. It already matches your Java port.
- Leave Include Floodgate switched on.
- Click Install.
- Restart the server from the button at the top of the page.
Clicking Install again does not add a second copy. It replaces the Geyser and Floodgate files with the newest versions, which is exactly what you want.
If you are on Fabric
Fabric servers use mods rather than plugins, so Geyser lives somewhere else.
- Open Mods Installer from the left sidebar.
- Go to the Installed Mods list.
- Find Geyser and update it with the one click update button.
- Restart the server from the button at the top of the page.
Then check it worked
Ask one Bedrock friend to try joining, using the two boxes:
Server Address: 173.214.166.150
Port: 25842
Use your own address from the Dashboard. The IP goes in the first box with no colon, and the port goes in the second box on its own. If they still cannot get in, see crossplay not working.
Keep an eye on Console while the server boots after updating. If Geyser has a problem it will say so there, and that message is the quickest thing to send us if you need help.
When there is no update yet
Geyser is built by a separate team, and they need a little time after each Bedrock release. If you update and nothing changes, a compatible version may simply not exist yet.
You have two options. Wait it out, which usually takes a few days. Or roll your server back to the version that was working, using backups.
Still stuck?
If Bedrock players still cannot join after updating and restarting, open a ticket through the Support center link at the top of the panel. Tell us your server type and the exact error your friend sees, and we will check which Geyser version your server is actually running.
For the original setup, see how to set up crossplay. If your friends are on console, see how to join on Xbox, PS5 or Switch.
Did this solve it?
